Abstract
AIM : To explore the influence of myopia on macular thickness and on the visual acuity .Methods :A cross sectional study was carried out on 193 Subjects between 18-30 years of age . 100 subjects were included in group 1 (emmetropic ) and 93 subjects were in group 2 (myopic ) . Macular thickness was analysed using a Carl ZEISS spectral domain OCT .Results :In myopics the macular thinning was present in all the subfield area as compared to the emmetropic group . But, it was highly significant only in inner macular subfield area and the average macular thickness (p<0.001).The overall macular thickness and macular subfield thickness decreased with decrease in visual acuity, but was significant only in the inner macular subfield area. (p>0.001) . The overall macular thickness and the macular subfield thickness also decreased as the degree of myopia increased . However it was not statistically significant.
