Abstract
In the present scenario topical beta blockers have almost become the mainstay of treatment of Pyogenic granulomas(PG). The author here describes the usage of topical ointment formulation of Timolol 0.5% in the management of orbital and peri ocular PGs. Prior to this retrospective interventional study, Timolol ointment has never been described for PGs. The data of only those receiving topical Timolol ointment where collected and tabulated in terms of age, sex, duration of symptoms, etiology, previous treatment, size of the lesion and the size of the lesion on follow up.A total of 25 patients were found with PGs who underwent treatment using Timolol 0.5% ointment.8(32%) patients had complete resolution, 10 (40%) had ≥50% reduction in size, 4 had <50%(16%) and 3(12%) had no change after 8 weeks of timolol use.The ointment formulation of Timolol 0.5% appears to be an effective non-surgical management option for periocular PGs with 78% of patients having a significant reduction in size.
