Abstract
Introduction: “Consent” plays a remarkable legitimate role in medical negligence, is an agreement given voluntarily by a competent person, distinguishing permitted from unpermitted treatment. Right to privacy and confidentiality is patient’s rights. Validity and quality of Informed Consent are subject of judicial scrutiny. Breach of confidentiality amounts to medical negligence. Method: 2016 to 2018. 232 Ophthalmologists across 9 faculties, age of 25 to 64 years – from Maharashtra, interviewed Face to face with AV recording. 152 consent forms evaluated for “Information and notation of confidentiality” Results: All ophthalmologist do not explain the concept of Confidentiality to patients. Confidentiality information and notation were missing from 150 Consent Forms. Conclusion: Ophthalmologists not aware of Laws of Confidentiality, IT Act, personal information, data and documents, limited to identity of person.
