Abstract
In this 10 years retrospective study of our well established diabetic eye screening programme with currently 45373 diabetic patients enrolled, cohort performance of number of diabetic patients invited and screened from 1st April 2010 to 31st March 2020 are analysed.Outcome measures of grading of routine digital screening, routine referrals and urgent referrals with total 379631 screening episodes are analysed on yearly basis.
Overall 0.27% of the patients were referred urgently and 3.01% were referred routinely to the hospital eye service.89.7% were recalled for annual screening.
There was gradual increase of cohort of diabetic patients from 30972 in 2010 to 45737 in 2020.
However appropriate identification of patients requiring treatment in timely manner, there was gradual decrease in the referral to the hospital eye service, decreased incidence of sight impairment and severe sight impairment due to diabetic retinopathy which helped in reducing the blindness in diabetic patients.
