Abstract

Aim: To measure the variability in pseudophakic lens position of different models of IOLs and its impact on post op refraction.Methods: Patients with axial lengths (22 to 26 mm), keratometry (41 to 47D),white to white (10.75 to 13.0 mm) and uneventful topical phaco with IOL implantation by a single surgeon were included.Pre and post op measurements were performed by OA2000 biometer(Tomey, Japan) using a standard technique and Barrett Universal 2 formula was used.Results: Mean age was 70.29±6.98. Pre op corrected distance visual acuity of 0.42±0.38 logMAR improved to 0.03±0.07. Predicted spherical equivalent(SE) was -0.01±0.10 while achieved spherical equivalent was -0.05±0.41 (p<0.001).IOL position (p=0.56) and difference between achieved and expected SE(p=0.28) were not significant. There was statistically significant difference in the achieved SE in the different IOL models used (p=0.001).Conclusion: The achieved post-operative spherical equivalent was dependent on the IOL model.
