Abstract
of ornithine amino transferase, characterized by hyperornithemia and progressive
chorioretinal degeneration, resulting in progressive deterioration of peripheral and night
vision leading to blindness. This poster aims to present a classical case of gyrate
atrophy in a 41 year old female in whom a high level of plasma ornithine (878.4
microlmol) was detected. Patient was treated with an arginine restricted diet. Early and
accurate diagnosis of GA along with early correction of ornithine accumulation is critical
for delaying the onset of irreversible retinal degeneration.
