Abstract
MATERIALS & METHODS: A retrospective cohort study conducted. Patients of surgical or non –surgical pediatric aphakia with no zonular support were accessed and planned for SF IOLs. Follow up records were maintained. All data exported from EMR and analysed by SPSS 22 using descriptive analyses and cross tabulation.
RESULTS: Our study includes 24 patients of pediatric aphakia. Mean age of 8.5+/-3.7 years, 70.8% male and 29.2% female. SFIOL was implanted with anterior vitrectomy in all the cases. Mean follow up period was 237 days. Significant improvement in visual outcome was found (p=0.02). The main causes of diminished of vision were secondary glaucoma, amblyopia and optic atrophy.
CONCLUSION: Surgical correction of pediatric aphakia with no zonular support with SFIOL implantation is a safe but need more meticulous amblyopia management.
