Abstract
Aim- To evaluate macular and peripapillary retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL) thickness in primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) patients using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Material and methods-cross-sectional study done on 60 diagnosed POAG patients and 60 controls from December 2018 to January 2020. Macular and peripapillary RNFL scans done. Correlation between macular and RNFL thickness was done by global field indices. Discriminating power of each parameters were evaluated by areas under receiver operating characteristic curve (AROC). P-value of <0.05 considered significant. Results- except foveal and nasal inner quadrant thickness all macular thickness parameter differences between groups were statistically significant. Differences in RNFL thickness parameters were significant between groups. Conclusion- Both macular and RNFL layer thickness were decreased in glaucoma patients. Macular thickness has high discriminating power as compared to RNFL thickness.
