Abstract

AIM-To assess the ocular manifestations,including vision-threatening manifestations in HIV patients in tertiary care hospital.

METHOD-A hospital based prospective observational study was conducted in the department of Ophthalmology in collaboration with the ART centre.Total 60 HIV patients were enrolled.The demographic profile, ocular symptoms and examination findings were noted after taking consent.

RESULTS-A total no of 120 eyes of HIVpatients were studied,out of which ocular lesions were present in 38 eyes (31.6 %). 10.52% had adnexal lesions, 7.8% had ocular surface lesions,Anterior segment lesions were present in 31.57%,Posterior segment lesions were present in 31.57% and other ocular lesions were present in 21.05%.Prevelence of vision-threatening ocular lesions was 15.7%.

CONCLUSION: Any delay in treatment can lead to permanent visual loss, so routine ocular examination should be done in all the HIVpatients to detect and treat vision-threatening ocular lesions at the earliest.
